Website Banner Commission

I was asked to illustrate this website banner for Elizabeth R. She regales her readers with tales of recipes conquered and taste buds thrilled; all for the edification of those brave souls who take spatulas and cooking thermometers in hand.

Andy Griffith (1926-2012)

I'll always remember the warmth, humor and patience Andy Griffith imbued his greatest creation, Andy Taylor, the peaceful sheriff of Mayberry, NC. His portrayal of fatherhood, fictitious or not, rang with a compelling honesty that still holds up against the puerile vagaries of disposable contemporary television.

It's July Fourth and I'll be meditating on my country's humble beginnings and how we have daily chances to enact our deepest, truest faith in the world's greatest experiment.

Please enjoy our Birthday in the spirit of warmth and understanding. Kinda like Sheriff Taylor.

One of my "Favorite Read-Again" books. Vonnegut's drawings are as funny as his prose.

Of course, "Tropic Thunder" is a Ben Stiller comedy, but I thought the title sounded like:

a) An island cocktail for tourists
b) A variety of weed making the rounds on college campuses
c) A roller derby team out of Key West
d) A cologne for lonely retirees

Learn and master drawing a cube with three tones and you can draw most anything. Once you get the concept that highlights have highlights and shadows have shadows, the rest is cake.

"When you know the notes to sing,
You can sing most anything

This is an actual commissioned piece for a banker friend. He furnished the general concept, the quote selection and the players; I fleshed it out. It's approximately 9"x9", watercolor on illustration board.

Do you have any pet interests that would make a good Quiptoon you'd like to own? Commissioned pieces are more than welcome. Please contact me through my e-mail address in the ABOUT BOX , above right.

Chicken Nuggets of Wrath

Chick-fil-A is known for tasty fried chicken sandwiches, refreshing sweet tea and a virulent anti-gay stance. Drop by sometime and ask for a tall, frosty glass of Intolerance with a steaming pile of Moral Superiority.

Definitely one of my favorite books to enjoy once a year or so.

I can highly recommend going back to old favorites and reading them again.....and again. You might be surprised how, as your life unfolds and gains evolving perspective, the books you thought you knew actually have underlying themes and ideas that finally resonate.
