Illustration Friday Entry: PERENNIAL

perennial-IF.jpg

Most everyone thinks of a garden full of yearly bloomers when they hear "perennial". But this word also means "enduring", "persistent".

Eastwood is THE perennial deadly plains drifter, in my book.

See how other talented artists interpreted this week's theme over at Illustration Friday.

great character!

Cowboy:

That!!! is very cool. Love the old movies and the original character, but that depiction is GREAT!

John Cox:

Hey Cowboy(HAH!) and new visitors,

Thanks for the kind word. He's one of all-time favorite actors. You won't see any weepy, touchy-feely, get-in-touch-with-his-feminine-side films out of this guy

Uh..let's not discuss "Bridges of Madison County"....

Love the crop, feel the heat (fits with the atmosphere all this past week).

John Cox:

Hey AHAnto

I thought a cinematic composition fit this idea best.

Thanks for the nice word.

Dr. Bob:

Nice job, John. You can actually feel the grit and determination just by looking at the illustration.

Both his western characters and the Inspector Callahan character are role models in my work life - tough as nails, no excuses, dogged determination and doing the dirty tasks that have to be done that no one else will do.

I have yet to master his steely squint. heh!

i need learn much about it.

Great illustration John... nice detail and expression.

Terwiliger:

When I think of "perennial" I do think of "annual bloomers"--but I also think "that I do not have to plant again next year."

"Persistent:" Right now, I'd just as soon not think of that word. It reminds of a quotation by Alexandre Dumas (fils):

“I prefer rogues to imbeciles because they sometimes take a rest.” (Thank goodness at least the imbeciles no longer control the House. Give me gridlock--keep the debt.)

I like the rendering too--but there's so much philtrum & so little nose. To me, this looks like it could also be a cross between Peter Jennings & the ventriloquist dummy "Walter" (in a cowboy hat, of course; "Walter: Texas Wrangler"). ( :

John Cox:

Hey Dr. Bob

A spine of steel is always a good thing to shoot for.

Figuratively, of course.

Hey T

It's funny, but you nail the Eastwood squint and everything else just kind of supports the attitude.

And you revealed a word I did not know. I thought "philtrum" was a lunch meat filler..

Steve M:

I feel the (sun)burn in this.

GarandFan:

For some reason I have a sudden need for some spaghetti!

Tom Wms.:

Makes me want to watch a western.

I have never fully understood the point of Top 10 or Top 100 Lists. They don't make sense unless you have the exact same taste in things that people who create the lists have.
