It looks like Roger Parian squeaked in the last bid for "Dinner With Me" at 11:58 pm Thursday, April 3 and will be my guest in Decatur! Congrats!
And a special shout-out goes to George for kicking off this auction and being so enthusiastic about the whole process. George will be receiving a signed book for all his effort and hearty thanks from me for all the kind words.
If this works out, I'm sure I'll be doing this stunt again.

Let me be the first (John excepted) to congratulate the winner.
I bet you're one interesting cat, John...I'll spare you my excuses/reasons for not jumping in the fray.

HEY T
Why do I get the strange feeling our paths may cross?

I tried auctioning myself off as Dinner Company recently. All I got was an old NYC subway token, a Moxie bottle cap (with cork liner!), and a dried up dog turd. So I stayed home and ate a tuna fish sammitch. The turd was excellent company, though.

HEY JOHN
I don't know. I sometimes get the feeling that I have a bigger impression to make than the occasional flippant remark on a message board. Maybe then--but so far, I've yet to make my breakthrough.

HEY ELLISON
You gotta throw in something that in and of itself is worth bidding on. Like your hat....your glasses....taxi fare home.

Robbed, Robbed I say.
A ringer at the end.
that's OK, I don't have to explain it to my wife. She is buying me a $7K lawn tractor so I don't want to get her upset.
John, just to verify that you got my email with my address?
Send me an email if you can.
thanks again,
(I know what I have to do next time,)george

7 grand for a lawn tractor?
You could probably save 4 or 5 grand if you went somewhere besides Neiman Marcus.

I have 3.5 acres and a very long driveway and I need to have a snow blower on the front. I wish I could spend $20K and get the one with a backhoe and loader.

Why don't you just install radiant heat under your driveway?
Also, you should be ashamed of yourself. Our gracious host offers up a package for auction that's worth well over a grand...& you whine about losing at the last minute when you only bid 300-&-some measly dollars.
THEN you talk about a prospective $7K lawn mower & a "next gun fund" that has to have at LEAST what you bid in it.
I hope you know I'm kidding. I'm just nurturing my Inner-Spoiled-Brat-Envious-Democrat...but you could have at least attempted to throw a little more scratch John's way.

HEY Terwiliger
HERE! HERE! ( a big wink and a nudge)
Of course he should shower me with filthy lucre, but I fully respect his budget and priorities.

I did not have a chance to bid higher.
I did say that she is buying the tractor, not me.
A picture on the wall is nice but a clean driveway after a foot of snow so my wife can leave the house; priceless.

I could let this go, but it's just too much fun to stir the pot.
Be honest...You had ample opportunity to place a higher bid...But rather than making a bid that was more in line with the package offered for sale, you tried to snipe a bargain á la a slimy eBay tactic & somebody else timed it better.
"She's buying the tractor." Does the word "fungible" mean anything to you? OR...Does she have you by the grapes & you need her to authorize the purchase so they don't get crushed?
Unless my calendar is running slow, snow season is a ways off.
You could give her a really nice snow shovel. With a long driveway, a snow a foot deep could keep her out of the house for hours.
I really am kidding, George. We all know its nobody's business how you spend your money, & you don't have to justify anything to anybody here. I hope you enjoy the heck out of your new tractor (& what little peace & quiet it brings) & your new firearm.
