William Holman Hunt If You Can

Doug Toney and I decided it would be fun to do something we call "The Caricature Challenge". I picked the era and country of origin and he picked the historical character. I suggested the late 1800's in England, and he came up with William Holman Hunt, a prominent painter in his day that started (with his painter buddies) what we call The Pre-Raphaelites. The paintings are lush, detailed, magnificently rendered with lots of drama and sparkling color. Their intent was to explore romantic themes that featured high ideals of beauty, heroism, truth, blah, blah blah. You know the stuff legends are made of.

Doug Toney is a caricaturist I admire and his friendship has been inspiring. His take on Mr. Hunt is below my version. The differences are alarming. You'll probably have to look up Hunt to see what we were after.
