I've heard that phrase my whole life, and I don't know what it actually means. Does it suggest that two independent, creative minds will arrive at the same conclusion given the same perimeters of a shared endeavor? Does that make them great? Are they both "great" or merely lazy? Hmmmmmmmm.....

I have to say that the symbolism of the rat and the symbolism of the eagle are not terribly creative and certainly not unique.
From there, what do eagles do with rats isn't particularly creative either.
Common societal paradigms and idiological frames tend to lead to similar themes in art.
Now the execution (double meaning intended) is creative and unique in the sense that John's has the eagle in the act of pouncing and Ramirez's is with the eagle having been successful - that and the styles of the art.
What's interesting is that both eagles come from the right - I'm not sure why that is, perhaps both John and Ramirez are both right handed or maybe it's that right brain vs. left brain stuff?
Regardless, I like both pieces.

I'll only add that Allen and I did that piece ten years ago and wouldn't you think a renowned editorial artist of Ramirez's stature would go WAY BEYOND what is actually a common metaphor.
You see, it's not that Allen and I invented this. I'm just surprised Ramirez decided to go this way. An artist of his great wit had plenty to of ammo to portray bin Laden's demise.

I don't recall the artist, could of have been you or Ramerez, or another, but my favorite editorial cartoon after the 9/11 attack was of a determined--looking eagle sharpening it's talons.
The one you and Forkum did of Uncle Sam pulling the knife from his back and squaring himself for the fight is in the same vein.
I'm glad Ben Franklin didn't get his way when he advocated thge wild turkey as a national symbol.

The artist was Steve Breen of the San Diego Union. Over time there were 3:
1) Sept 12th - portrait of an eagle (head view only), in his eye you could see the Twin Towers, there was a tear coming from the eye.
2) Later there was a sitting eagle, sharpening his claw with a file.
3) With the start of the Afgan war, the eagle was seen flying off, the nail file left on the ground.
