Ah, I can feel the bird's yearning. If only wishing made it so. But maybe a painted sky is a feasible escape for a painted bird.

I think this is an allegory for Obama's exit strategery in Iraq & Afghanistan.
Not that it matters. He has that vision of a beautiful blue sky, & he'll keep banging his head against his ideal of the sky, never realizing it for what it is--never considering for a moment that his perspective is the result of a flawed paradigm.

I expect it's incidental, but at this resolution, that little gray spot to the left of the Shrike looks like a mouse impaled on a thorn.
You're not using Birds of North America as your reference, are you?
