It's interesting to me that--given the subject title--you chose to do a "fragment" instead of a "complete" figure.
I also like the East European/Russian features of the face. Is this a subconscious continuation of the Ayn Rand thing?

Not particularly. Her featurers were just very striking and I wanted the shadows to accentuate a sense of movement.
