Got a chuckle out of this, John. When I was in high school my friends and I used to refer to geeks as "Melvins". This is the first time I've seen anyone else use the term. Unless I've been living under a rock for all these years.....

I doubt it. It was just a familiar name that had a certain drabness that fit this character. Heck, "Fred", "Norman" or any other age-old American name would have been fine. "Melvin" made me chuckle, that's all.
