That's right! It's time to stop feeding the asses!

GarandFan:

Hahahahaha! Thanks John! Sent that to Boxer and Feinstein.

We can talk to you again! Welcome back.

Are you reading Ayn Rand by chance?

Yo

John Cox:

HEY G

I wish MANY elected officials would reap the consequences of rational men.

Cowboy:

...and if they don't get off their "ASS" they can starve to death! That's my take on INDIVIDUALISM...

Anonymous:

Did they snore so hard they blew out the sun?

Very usefull blog. i will follow this blog. keep up the good work.

Terry_Jim:

There are 2 parties
and 3 groups,
the "R's", "D's", and "I's"...
Republicans,
Dependents,
and the
Invertibrates.

Terwiliger:

While there may be 2 major parties before an election, for all intents & purposes there is only 1 party for the duration of a politician's "career"; INCUMBENT.

Mr. Hannity, leading up to November of last year you were telling us how principled Republicans were, & you seemed really steamed that people said there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between Republicans & Democrats.

A whopping (he facetiously wrote) $38 billion in spending cuts (most of them deferred) later--stacked against multi-trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see--what's your opinion now?

A dime's worth of one, two nickels of another.

TO COMMENT ON TOPIC:

I'm farther right than anybody I know, & I don't understand why Ayn Rand is so highly esteemed. I'm in general agreement with her position on free markets, but she thought too highly of herself, she confused many aspects of corporatism & capitalism--& philosopher? Not hardly. Objectivist? No. Solipsist.

John Cox:

HEY T

I wasn't trying to encapsulate the vast quantity of Objectivist thought into this toon. It simply focused on "there's no free lunch" aspect of "Atlas Shrugged", which, of course, is in the news these days.

NO cartoon of mine will withstand the Minutia Test. These are broad strokes going for a thought-provoking laugh.

Giggle or don't.

Terwiliger:

JOHN:

I think the 'toon is hilarious--& 2 thumbs up to TNSTAAFL. As Thomas Sowell duly noted, just because certain people don't pay a price for something doesn't mean that there isn't a cost that has to be borne by (forced on) others. Voluntary charity is one thing; compulsory tribute is another.

However, there was a bit of sappy sentiment about Ayn Rand here not so long ago (not by you), although COWBOY nailed her as dry & humorless (IMO because she was so self-absorbed & didn't know how to relate to anyone who didn't swallow her ideology whole).

I had a good comment back then, but that was just seconds after the comments went out. My bad for trying to sneak one in the back door.

Martin Lundqvist:

T:

If you have listened to Ayn Rand's TV appearances, Interviews & Lectures, you will notice (if you care to perceive it) that she has a dry humor; she is not "dry & humorless".
Interviews can be found on YouTube, Lectures can be found at AynRand.org at the Multimedia Library.

And obviously, it is hard to "relate" to anyone who is openly hostile against you, since Ayn was a radical in every sense of the word.

Hey, how are you, outstanding post! Genuinely aids my analysis on the subject

Rand's view of humor was that it's mostly useful as a weapon against your enemies. Never much one for the idea of "self-deprecation".

Well, to tell the truth when I was discussing with my mate concerning this, she had difficulty understanding my view. It found a spot where I had been beginning to feel I'm drastically wrong : ). I understand that we are correct now

Terwiliger:

MARTIN:

Simply put, I disagree with you. It's an honest, informed disagreement. Nothing personal.

Cowboy already commented on those interviews (QUIPTOON before last). I've seen them, & I happen to agree with him.

Ayn Rand lived much as a cloistered cultist surrounded by fawning hangers-on. Seems like relatedness with anyone who didn't carry her bucket was impossible for her.

I don't find her difficult to relate to. I find her understanding of capitalism & the human psyche--as evidenced by her books & her so-called "philosophy"--to be puerile.

I don't find her especially radical, either; she's too derivative.

However, the quotable Ayn Rand--the proclamations in defense of individual liberty & the free market--is/are, for the most part, on point (& where not entirely on point, the looseness is generally forgivable--& highly preferred to the sewage spewed from the Leftstream main *).

* Gee whiz, that was a good play on words if I say so myself.

Hi-ya, superb post! Beyond doubt adds to my review on the theme

This is getting a bit more subjective, however this is a great blog.keep up the good work.

Martin Lundqvist:

T:

Cloistered cultist? Obviously, since so many people were openly hostile against her, it is no wonder that few people wanted to visit her with the intent to "get to know her" - all they were interested was in ad hominem attacks and 3rd rate bromides.

I think it quite revealing of a person when they *in a discussion of ideas*, refuse to discuss the ideas in logic, but instead pronounce a subjective judgment without any apparent thinking behind it.

Terwiliger:

MARTIN:

Relatedness goes both ways. It's one thing to avoid those openly hostile towards you; it's an altogether different thing to withdraw from many in order to bask in the attention of a small band of neophyte admirers (& perhaps to avoid having to defend a "philosophy" that has several very weak foundational points).

People tend to go into "avoidance mode" like that as a defense mechanism--it's a very typical trait of people who are very uncomfortable dealing with uncertainty (& the fear/risk of being wrong) & it is also common among people who are secretively insecure & have self esteem issues (e.g., someone who is relatively intelligent, is obsessed with being "the most intelligent", & feels especially threatened by people of equal or greater intelligence).

Atlas Shrugged isn't a horrible book, but she's off the mark regarding several key points of free-market/laissez-faire capitalism. While she's basically right in the end, her reasoning is so bad at times as to be tortured, & she draws several conclusions that are simplistically romantic.

Regarding "Objectivism", all I'll add is that I really enjoyed her estranged husband's apology for his "contribution" to "Objectivism".

FWIW, I like the fact that we don't agree. A good, honest disagreement can reveal things that a bunch of "Atta boys!" can't.

T:

Obviously, Ayn Rand never "withdrew" as you try to make it look like. She made numerous public appearances and wrotes a dozen books defining & defending her philosophy. But you are just going to ignore that, are you?

And again, you are showing off your emotionalist judgment and *never* specifying exactly WHAT part of logical reasoning was allegedly faulty, but instead dismiss it out of hand.

Frankly, I don't give very much for "honest disagreement" - I bet I could have that with Adolf Hitler himself, before we both would race for a gun trying to shoot the other first.

Terwiliger:

O.K., Martin.

I've tried to be cordial, but you won't have it. You criticize ad hominem attacks, & then backhandedly equate me with Hitler. You call me an "emotionalist" when I'm simply trying to be brief. Then you call me illogical (it reads like you're cutting & pasting from Boortz) when you have no idea what my thought process is.

Ayn Rand wrote NOVELS promoting her IDEOLOGY. She did not write scholarly works for open dissection in refereed journals. Why? First, she was a historian writing qualitative material about elementary principles of economics, finance, & government (she had little to no education in the first two of these three). As a result, her critiques of egalitarianism, collectivism, government interventionism, & social conditions are much better than her defenses of financial & economic principles, in which she had little to no training. Second, she was a self-styled "philosopher" (I'm not even commenting on that drivel because this is going to be too long anyway--SORRY, JOHN!).

It is well known that Ayn Rand actively managed her life outside of her public persona (novels & public appearances)--in part to avoid critical confrontation she couldn't answer, in part to create & maintain an air of mystique about herself.

I'm going through Atlas Shrugged now, doing a complete critical analysis of her misconceptions regarding free-market capitalism & her romanticism of entrepreneurialism. This is something I've been working on for a while, & given how many errors there are, it will be some time before I'm done.

Here's one abbreviated critique from more than 20 (so far)--& those are just the critiques in regards to her naiveté regarding the business world.

Entrepreneurs want a simple, laissez-faire government that treats all equally & "fairly."

THIS IS PATENTLY FALSE. Virtually all entrepreneurs are known for exploiting the existing legal system(s) to maximize their advantage over competitors & to extract the maximum payments they can from consumers. Not only do they exploit existing laws, they lobby government to create additional facilitative & protectionist laws in their favor. They also skirt existing laws (e.g., those regarding monopoly & oligopoly) to conspire with government & competitors to fix prices higher than they would be in a fully competitive free market. In day-to-day business, tacit collusion is well-documented in case studies about the automotive industry, chemical industries, & food industries, & extends into every aspect of life. If Ayn Rand's axiom were true, there would be no "K" Street in Washington, D.C.

A republican laissez-faire system would be an optimal legal construct, but you will find very few (if any) entrepreneurs who would favor it.

Thanks for the a new challenge you have disclosed in your short article. One thing I would really like to comment on is that FSBO relationships are built over time. By introducing yourself to the owners the first end of the week their FSBO will be announced, prior to the masses begin calling on Mon, you make a good link. By mailing them instruments, educational products, free accounts, and forms, you become a great ally. By taking a personal desire for them and also their circumstance, you generate a solid connection that, on most occasions, pays off once the owners decide to go with a realtor they know along with trust - preferably you.

The beauty of these blogging engines and CMS platforms is the lack of limitations and ease of manipulation that allows developers to implement rich content and 'skin' the site in such a way that with very little effort one would never notice what it is making the site tick all without limiting content and effectiveness.
