GarandFan:

Reminds me of one of my old bosses: "The beatings will continue until morale improves!"

Cowboy:

OMG! I could right volumes on this cartoon and subject. GF said one of "everbody's" favorite lines. I think I'll stay out of this one. But will say "Shit runs down hill through people who are often clueless as to what's going on"!

Dr. Bob:

Must be a manager... big weapon, little brain.

Terwiliger:

The thing that gets me about most "office humor" cartoons (Dilbert is a prime example) is that there's generally only ONE "PHB" (which I guess would be "Pointy-hatted boss" in this volume).

Every corporate gig I've had there wasn't was just one "PHB"--there was a minimum of 3 (in one instance there were 5), each with different objectives--which resulted in each of them telling me an entirely different way to do my job. (I think the biggest reason for this is that if one ever promises you a reward, a raise, or a perk, the others are there for "majority rules plausible deniability").

I even had multiple interviews with one company where each officer going up the chain (to the CEO) gave me an entirely different description of what my job would entail. I thought I was being tested to see if I was a "yes man" & spoke up to show that I wasn't. I was wrong.

Even when I worked for "sole proprietors", there was usually somebody slinking around giving "whisper" orders (usually a "money guy" who was backing an incompetent son or wife, or a "money gal" who was backing an incompetent husband), & they could be just as bad.

I'd have illustrated 3 henchmen on the cover simultaneously trying to smash a piñata--& every time they missed they dealt a blow to either the company or each other. We already know what happens when they hit us.

Good points, T. G's quote reminds me of the Despair.com demotivators, which you might try your hand at, John (and sort of already do).

e.g. "If a pretty poster and a cute saying are all it takes to motivate you, you probably have a very easy job. The kind robots will be doing soon."

Thunderbottom:

As I've heard it said in business, "Beware the enthusiastic incompetent" (like the ones in the present administration).
