For the sake of my point, let's go ahead & accept the premise that she's an incompetent dolt.
She didn't assume the role of Veep candidate--it was offered to her. What politically ambitious Republican pol would have turned the offer down, boob or otherwise? (Herein lies part of the problem.)
If she truly is incompetent, I think the time devoted to trashing Mrs. Palin (who holds no political office) would be put to better use scorching Senator McCain's patch of earth so the progressive nincompoop never has the chance to sully Conservatism again.
However, the media loves McCain. He's a weak link in the Republican chain, yet he's prominent & wields a lot of influence.
I say we devote our energy to finding a real Conservative or Libertarian to run in place of McCain, force McCain to resign, give him a copy of Reagan's "A Time for Choosing" speech, & may our political paths never cross again (IF ONLY...).
I'd like to think that if Barry Goldwater was alive today, he'd thank McCain for his military service, tell him he's milked that cow for all it's worth, & then punch his lights out.

I'm with you totally on your commentary. Didn't know from your commentary what your position was on Palin? That's not important right now. Don't know myself. I do know that I've worked in Alaska for the last 5 years with and among many of their State Agencies. They liked her ability to make decisions. It's been nasty though with the legislature and her opponents. She's also pretty popular with the many of the companies because she shoots straight. This will be an on going saga.

Palin is operating on hubris. That's unforgivable. She KNEW that the office required gravitas and fortitude, She CAN'T whine to press how no one gave her a chance. The fact that she whines at all makes her inept for any office requiring respnsible leadership. LEADERS DO NOT WHINE!!!!

If Sarah Palin is a fool, McCain was a bigger fool making her his running mate.
"We don't want to go too far over to the right"? America has never been too far right, & it's been in a constant leftward drift since its inception. The only things the founders got wrong were: (1) discrimination based on ANY particular demographic characteristic; & (2) establishing a Federal government. In spite of what the mainstream media says, discrimination IS NOT a Conservative principle.
I've written enough about McCain in other threads, but I'll add this: The major "merit" I saw in him is that he wasn't Barack Obama.

I think Palin's current hubris is a result of her getting the equivalent of a promotion she didn't deserve--& as soon as she got it, she thought she'd earned it (in spite of the fact that it was a purely strategic political ploy by McCain). The circus ensued.
If hubris was an irredeemable trait, Washington would be a ghost town.
Obama didn't just whine. He threw a tantrum & tried to take his ball & go home because Fox News wouldn't lock-step with the rest of the "media" & "play fair" (by his definition).
ALL:
If we could halt the "Health Care" bill, repeal the "Stimulus", make the House write its own legislation (instead of outsourcing it to SEIU), stop the "Apology Tour", & trade Sarah Palin for Barack Obama, what would you do?

She gets a bit chatty in her interviews sometimes, but her enthusiastic support of American defense, domestic energy production, lower taxes, and less obtrusive government is her drawing card.
That she is pleasant looking doesn't hurt, but her popularity comes mainly from her positions.
The state-ists don't argue policy with her, because they lose that battle. Instead they sling mud.
