This is the 8" x 8" color rough for a cover of a book about Esther, the Old Testament queen who saved the Jews from extermination in ancient Persia. I'll show the finished piece later on.
NOTE: You may recognize the "Esther" from an earliler piece.

You mean this isn't the FINISHED version? It's breathtaking.
Have you considered a career in art?

Hey ERICA
That's the nature of doing detailed "roughs": the more information I get across in the piece, the more detailed the art director can make his/her opinion of the final outcome. Kind of like "Garbage In-Garbage Out"
You mean you can make MONEY doing this stuff?

One of my favorite stories, ever. You've captured it beautifully. She's definitely a woman of power and grace.

HEY JOAN
I have to admit, I didn't know the story until I was called for this job. Once I started researching it, I discovered the story to be very compelling.
Thanks for the kind word.

HEY JOHN
The ancients had masking tape?
The tape thing is a good device...
But moderation, man.
If it were me, I'd put the picture of "Esther" in a vessel with the side broken out--as if it had been stored like the Dead Sea scrolls. Have a shaft of light shining on the picture from above through the mouth of the vessel, & do a hazy array of light reflecting towards the viewer through the broken-out side.
A vessel would say more to me than tape would. Just an idea. Take it or leave it.

HEY T
Uh.....I'll pass. The tape is supposed to be anachronistic.

For us (the Jewish people), the term "old testament" is quite.... insulting.
How about using the term "Torah"?
thanks

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
I wish people would quit whining over words. Why not be thankful he knows the story?
OK--next, somebody write in & complain about the word "Jew"--it's "Hebrew-American"! If they're Israeli, they can be "Hebrew-American Hebrews."
I'm being facetious, BTW.
