Lao Tzu popularized Toaism in the 6th century B.C. I like to think of him as Yoda with chopsticks.

Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) was satirist and had a thing about tiny, tiny people.

I've been playing with the idea of interpreting interesting, historical quotes. Welcome to "Quiptoons", my foray into a regular humor feature for this site. Hope you enjoy.

Bukowski was a wonderful poet and novelist. Very gritty....very iconoclastic. Anyone whoever lifted a cocktail while frustrated or depressed should know this guy's work.

Stephen Leacock (1849-1944) was a Canadian humorist. That's right...CANADIAN.

Peter De Vries (1910 - 1993) was an American novelist known for his outrageous wit and wordplay.

Woody Allen is an obscure (some say funny) movie maker from Manhattan. He is 163 years old and plays the clarinet, for godsakes!

William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) gained fame as writer of whacky drug-induced characters careening through delusional environments loaded with sinister forces lurking in festering shadows.

Hans Hoffman (1880-1966) was a painter of squiggly lines and colorful blobs.

Ummon (864-949) was a Zen master during the T'ang Dynasty. He also once said,"Be the ball."

Logan Pearsall Smith (1865-1946) was an essayist and came up with a bunch of aphorisms and epigrams. I don't know what those are, but I want 'em.

Did I cross a line here?

Herman Hesse (1877-1962) was a German-Swiss poet, novelist and painter. My favorite is "Steppenwolf", his novel about spirituality and what it means to be happy.

Samuel Beckett (1906 - 1989) was an Irish poet and playwright who maintained a reputation as a genius wrapped in ash cloth. Not a party guy, Beckett

Austrian Karl Kraus (1876-1936) was a well-known satirist in Germany. Think about that. This guy was cracking wise during Hitler's rise to power. Tough gig.

Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) was a Welsh poet whose short life was punctuated with reknowned drinking binges.

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) was an English author who is quoted nearly as often as Shakespeare. Way to go, Sammy!

NOTE: Thanks goes out to Tim Reeves for bringing the quote to my attention.

SHOUT-OUT! to Terwiliger for passing along this jewel of a suggestion.

A BIG SHOUT-OUT to Devon and his artwork.

This is my illustration photoshopped onto a playground wall.
