Book Cover Idea

I like to read this one about once a year. It serves as a reminder that childhood and later life is fraught with wonderful (and scary) moral choices.

These guys are racing to the center so fast I fully expect a head-on collision of such mythic proportions that you might see them share DNA.

SCENE: At my local watering hole, minding my own business, downing a few High Lifes (Lives?) to shut up the voices in my head.....

H (screen printer): Hey, John. I got a Mexican restaurant that wants a smiling pinata with the caption "I'd Hit That!" on a t-shirt they can sell to customers.

Me: What's the budget?

H: I can go as high as $75.

Me (with a YOU-GOTTA-BE-KIDDIN' face): WHAT!?

H (giving me the fish-eye...he knows me oh too well): You heard me.

Me: Uh....that's a little low....(time to pull a face...something that says I'm thinking it over like I'm trying to dissect a radioactive frog...) Okay, I'm in.

H: When can I see a pencil?

Me: Tomorrow.

I've been revisiting Hunter S. Thompson's '79 collection of articles and essays, "The Gonzo Papers, Vol 1: The Great Shark Hunt: Strange Tales from a Strange Time". He was experiencing a new style of writing and you can sense he's trying to hang on by his crusty fingernails.

Here's to a long life and a merry one,
A quick death and an easy one,
A pretty girl and a true one,
A cold martini and another one.

(Thought I'd have a little fun with the Sistine Chapel....)

This is a recent illustration job for Allen Forkum's "Automotive Report". The cover story is about how mechanics can trim waste and benefit from leaner business practices.
