Concur heartily!
Not a New Orleans denizen, but the characters in this story are painted so clearly because I could look out my back window and see and hear these same scenes.

The other one of the eight I've read. I finally found a used copy of this. Parts of it are coarser than I would have preferred, but the "bigger picture" is entertaining.
