“I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity.” – Albert Einstein

Dr. Bob:

Solitude is a good thing even though I'm not good company.

Unfortunately, modern life seems to do everything it can to prevent and disrupt all attempts to be alone, uninterrupted, unmolested and unencumbered. Sigh...

I think we all need a PAUSE button for the rest of the universe.

John Cox:

Hey Dr. Bob

I might be the last guy in America that doesn't own (or want) a cell phone. I must admit being out of touch sometimes is important to me.

Now, if I were on the road alot, I'm sure this mindset wouldn't work.

Terwiliger:

Ditto DR. BOB.

JOHN:

I don't have--& have never had--a cell phone either (if I'm ever important enough, maybe--but there's been no need up til now).

I think most people are out of touch, even though they're so freaking wired. There's very little intimacy or depth in the world anymore (with each other or with knowledge). 99% of the cell phone conversations I hear are so banal--& I see so many people ignore incoming calls & say "I'll text (or e-mail) them later." I see people sitting across from each other staring at their own little hand-held glowing box as if they're mesmerized--& if there's no WIFI, they act like junkies who need a fix.

We keep hearing the same inane sound-bytes over & over again--so many "conversations" are rehashes of previous conversations--& I can't think of any kind of visual media (e.g., TV, movies, video games) where people don't get bored if the image isn't constantly changing.

The shallowness makes me uncomfortable--& I long for simpler times, REAL connectivity, & often solitude.
