Early Oscar Pick

TrueGrit.jpg

While I was away for Christmas, my family members and I caught "True Grit" which
features Jeff Bridges as the bloody Rooster Cogburn and a sparkling performance by first-timer Hallee Steinfeld as the gritty, sharp-tongued Mattie Ross.

Jeff Bridges expands and clarifies the Cogburn role made famous by John Wayne in the original. I'm sure there are many die-hard Wayne fans that aver his performance was the ultimate expression of the boozy, burnt out marshall with a weakness for doomed adventures. I'm happy to state that Bridges brings a contemporary flair to the role that the Coen brothers seize in their teeth, six-guns blazing.

Jeff Bridges for Best Actor in 2010.

VERY nicely done! It's like if Rembrandt decided to do a caricature it might look like this.

Doc Al:

Wait a minute - didn't John Wayne have the patch over the other eye?

Ed B:

The Duke abides...

JOHN:

Cool illustration. I haven't seen a trailer for the movie yet, & I doubt I'll see the movie--but it would be nice to see some of the old classics redone faithful to the storyline of the originals, but with the period "cheeziosity" removed.

One example is "Planet of the Apes". Great concept, & the original story was good--but the 2001 version with Marky Mark was a big letdown.

DOC AL:

I'm sure Hollywood/Bridges/Coen will call the switch "inadvertent"--but EVERYTHING in Hollywood is a political statement.

I'm surprised they didn't do a version with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin doing Mattie Ross. Then they could have just blindfolded her & given her a Gatling gun, eliminating the need for both Rooster & La Boeuf & cutting the movie's "star" budget by heaps. Uh, never mind--Hollywood movie budgets rarely decrease (although they do make money hand over fist using accounting "principles" that wouldn't fly in any other industry).

John Cox:

HEY T

I suggest this is not a "remake" as much as a redefinitiion. The Coen brothers really nail the the hard-bitten nature of Western law and the struggle for survival. PLUS: no Glen Campbell (aweful!) and no Kim Darby (stiff and way too prescious).

Give it a shot and be open to a grittier presentation.

Terwiliger:

JOHN:

I get your point. A lot of those old movies are so cheezy (or have aspects that are so cheezy) that, in retrospect, they have a a Fellini-esque quality to them (& I mean that in the worst way).

I don't have any problem with updating, altering storylines & dialogue, or in some cases even reinterpretation, but I hate it when they arbitrarily alter key points & really fudge them up.

Still, I'll wait to see it on the cheap (if at all).

My only complaint is that I believe the movie could've been slightly more effective if it were based more closely on the novel at certain points, but the modified point of view of the film does make a great point; anyone who has ever hated their job, been accused of something, had some person so self-righteous and convinced of their own authority and dependency on order get in your way, or attended the American public school system at any point in their life should be able to identify with this movie.

Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the web the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people think about worries that they just don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

Women love Replica Handbags Online and shoes, is just a fact. They love it, looking for bags big game with the teams to show a sense of fashion and style. Professionals use the stock market as a statement to colleagues and staff on their character and personality.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

Hermes Replica Brand Bags:

Once you decide to wholesale Hermes Replica Brand Bags, you should know that the search can be difficult for a bag of high quality at a good price. The reason there is great demand for designer bags wholesale is that they are so popular, but also very expensive.

This is getting a bit more subjective, however this is a great blog.keep up the good work.
