Happy St. Pat's everybody--from a mutt with a few drops of Irish blood (& a duke's mixture of who-knows what else).
I just had the cable disconnected & put a full tube of #4 buck through my yard-sale TV, & after this post, I'll be terminating the Internet account shortly (I'll still have e-mail, but I'll only check it once a week at most).
I went to the doctor to have a routine check done Thursday--my blood pressure has gone from 110 over 60 in October to 120 over 110--mainly due to anger over this opacity, most unethical congress, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors, "Slaughter Rule", reconciliation, buy-off, intimidation, we hear you but we're not listening, worst economy since the one you inherited from the Bush administration B.S. from Congress & mmm mmm mmm... Barack Hussein Obama.
Mark Warner, Jim Webb, & cute little duplicitous prince Tom Perriello--since you're ignoring my phone calls, e-mails, & letters, I'm using this forum to strongly--& I mean STRONGLY--urge you to vote against any cluster-fudge of a bill that comes out of this God-forsaken process.

There are several new ranges around here--I quit going to the older ones because they require an NRA membership, & the carry requirements in my state indicate to me that the NRA is in bed with government. The Constitution guarantees my right to keep & bear arms, & I shouldn't have to pass any kind of test (NRA sponsored or not) regarding any aspect of those rights. I do think there should be some way to red flag a lunatic to keep him from owning anything more dangerous than a spork, but I haven't figured out a way to do that yet.
Now--I have rarely carried a handgun for any reason, & I don't even own one anymore. The main reason is I believe that if somebody is determined to take me out, there isn't much I can do to stop them. I mean no harm against anyone else, & if it comes down to defending myself, I'll take a shotgun or a rifle. God grant me the peace of never facing that situation.
As for the range, the only thing I have that I can afford to feed at current ammo prices are my .22s, & they get boring after a while. My M-96 Swedes are my favorite guns to shoot, but American 6.5x55 is weak, & I'm not paying over a buck a round for good imported stuff (can't afford loading dies & supplies at the moment).
As for Obama, Reid, & Pelosi targets--wouldn't shooting at heads that big lead to poor habits & cause your MOA to drop off? I've tried scaling down pictures of them, but if I go to a resolution that uses paper smaller than 17"x22", my computer can't handle the overload.
What's your opinion of the Mini 14 Target? I've been looking at piston fed AR variants (I'm not a .223 fan, but if the insurrection comes, it's better than nothing), but they're too expensive, & I thought a Mini would be cheaper & easier to maintain than a typical AR (I have a couple miscellaneous items that people keep bugging me for that would pay for the rifle).
ALL:
I have some web/consulting concerns that I'm going to focus my attention on. I'll still be writing, but it'll be more about principles & ideas than people--& it'll be more in depth than what I put here. I'll be woodshedding it for now.
I'm also working out the kinks in Moveable Type so I can get my own pages up.

Mini 14's are not that accurate compared to an AR if you're looking for something in a semi-auto. They've also gotten much more expensive then they use to be (2x) which just doesn't make sense. For the price they go for now, you might as well move up to an AR.

Second the AR. Rock River or White Oak. But for PURE FUN, nothing beats the Garand! Plus, if needed, ya can really really reach way out and 'touch' someone.

I was hoping the "little Garand" aspect of the Mini with the new tunable barrel would help out the accuracy problems enough to make it bearable.
I'll have to part with more stuff for a piston-fed AR (or maybe even an FAL), but being able to put on an upper other than a .223 would be worth it.

Went to a "2nd Amendment Show" Saturday.
No AR piston variant. Too many are poorly designed, & the few good ones are total overhauls of both the receiver & upper; SLICK--but WAY too expensive (& not that much of an improvement). No FAL either.
Looks like a plain old DI (.243?) & some backup parts a ways down the road.

What's your opinion of the DPMS Panther LR 260 series (.260 Rem)?
I'll probably end up with a plain old no-frills AR for cost, ammo, & resale reasons, but I went to the range with a buddy &...
...long story short, somebody there (seeing I had a 6.5x55 Swede & hearing me say how much I like the 6.5 round) had one & let me shoot a few rounds for the price of the ammo.
For the time being, I'm in lust with that round.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
