HAVE A FOOLISH DAY!
These are some of the drawings that appear on the flipside of a few Cox and Forkum originals. There was I time I'd doodle on the back of the ink drawings while I waited for Allen to return my phone call - the one that I would make telling him the drawing is finished and I sent it to for his okay.
Odd little riffs on whatever I found interesting....
The ship was doomed and the crew knew it. Having to thread the Straits of Slagash during the winter typhoons was like....like...CRAP, thought Thalbane. WHEN ARE WE EVER GOING TO INVENT METAPHORS?
This is an upcoming cover for Robert Tracinski's "The Intellectual Activist"magazine. The feature story is about Barak Obama's array of political stances.
UPDATE ON AUCTION: A little reminder that the bidding for a dinner and artwork ends tonight at midnight tonight. PLEASE LEAVE BIDS ON THE ORIGINAL AUCTION POST COMMENTS THAT APPEARED MARCH 27..
It looks like Roger Parian squeaked in the last bid for "Dinner With Me" at 11:58 pm Thursday, April 3 and will be my guest in Decatur! Congrats!
And a special shout-out goes to George for kicking off this auction and being so enthusiastic about the whole process. George will be receiving a signed book for all his effort and hearty thanks from me for all the kind words.
If this works out, I'm sure I'll be doing this stunt again.

One of the little landscapes I've been goofing around with. I'm particularly interested in trying to capture an Eastern Asian sensibility.
Wonderful, bigger-than-life actor, who'll always be THE definitive Moses, has shuffled off this mortal coil. He delivered my all-time favorite movie line as Taylor in Planet of the Apes: "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty apes!"

This would be the first CD release from an Egyptian soul band that did Nine Inch Nail covers.
I'd get a big kick out of illustrating a "tell-all" reference book that outed the Boogie Man, Loch Ness Monster, Moderate Muslims, etc.....
This was an identity image I did for Michelle and Marcie Phillips, a local graphic design team I happen to meet over a beer a while back.

Roger chose this piece to take home after his visit.
Arriving around 6pm yesterday, Roger (on the left) and I had engaging conversations over dinner at a local French place and came back to the studio to choose a painting and get in a caricature before it got too late.
Around 1am, it was time to call it. I had a blast and Roger was a highly entertaining guest. It couldn't have worked out better!

I was fascinated with the idea of an isolated culture of ropewalkers who waver between earth and sky their whole lives.
Random images that wash up on the shores of Synapse Beach.....
Some days I got nuthin'. It's like trying to squeeze out a watermelon through a nostril.

This is the finished version of the watercolor study I posted March, 10, 2008.
